Luna Sicana – Pizziferru – Perricone – Sicilia DOC – Red – 2019:

Perricone “Pizziferru” DOC Sicilia: A Luxurious, Oak-Aged Sicilian Red

Crafted by Società Agricola Luna Sicana, the Perricone “Pizziferru” DOC Sicilia Red revives the ancient, indigenous Perricone grape, showcasing its capacity for producing complex, age-worthy wine. Grown in the south-western reaches of Sicily, the grapes benefit from a unique mix of sandy and clay soils, yielding a wine of deep colour and distinctive flavour. This is a must-try for red wine enthusiasts seeking an authentic, structured Italian experience beyond the usual suspects.

Tasting Notes & Winemaking

The wine undergoes a crucial 10-month maturation in French oak barriques, followed by further resting in steel tanks and bottle, ensuring its bold tannins are fully integrated and velvety smooth.

• Appearance: A striking, deep ruby hue with elegant garnet highlights.
• Aromatics: A pronounced, spicy bouquet. Expect rich dark berries (blackberry, dark cherry), fine black pepper, anise, and a savoury, earthy complexity with subtle notes of cedar and cocoa from the oak.
• Taste: A generous, full-bodied palate. The wine is dry with a good grip of supportive, silky tannins and refreshing acidity that cuts through richness. The finish is persistent, warm, and spicy.

Food Pairing & Service

This powerful wine is an exceptional match for robust, slow-cooked meals. Best served slightly below room temperature (16-18°C), ideally decanted to allow the intricate aromas to fully develop.
