Domaine Philippe Bouzereau Pommard – Pommard – Red – 2022:
A Classic Côte de Beaune Red: Pommard by Domaine Philippe Bouzereau
Representing the very best of the Côte de Beaune, the Pommard from Domaine Philippe Bouzereau is a quintessential Burgundy. Made exclusively from the noble Pinot Noir grape, this red wine perfectly captures the appellation’s reputation for being more structured and ‘masculine’ than its neighbours. The Bouzereau family’s nine generations of expertise, rooted in Meursault, ensure a Pommard of great substance, where the clay-limestone soil imparts firm, yet refined tannins, making it a superb wine for laying down.
Tasting Notes
- Colour: A deep, dark ruby, often with subtle mauve glints-a colour Victor Hugo famously described as ‘night in combat with day’.
- Nose: Powerful and layered. Expect initial aromas of ripe red fruits (cherry, raspberry) and dark berries, which graciously yield to complex tertiary notes of truffle, woodland floor, aged leather, and a hint of pepper with time.
- Palate: Full-bodied and authoritative on the palate. The structure is built on chewy, concentrated tannins that soften beautifully with maturity, unveiling a silky mouthfeel and a savoury core. The finish is impressively long, a true hallmark of a quality Pommard.
Pairing & Serving
Its robust nature makes it an exceptional match for rich, traditional dishes.
- Serving Temperature: 16-17°C.
- Cellaring Potential: Best enjoyed after 5-8 years, with potential for 15+ years.
