Saint-Estèphe de Montrose – Saint-Estèphe – Red – 2014:
SAINT ESTEPHE DE MONTROSE: A Taste of Château Montrose Excellence
The SAINT ESTEPHE DE MONTROSE is the third label from the prestigious Château Montrose, a Second Growth in the 1855 Classification. It represents a superb opportunity to experience the classic structure and complexity of this famed Saint-Estèphe estate without the decades-long wait required for the Grand Vin.
Produced from selected young vines and a Merlot-dominant blend in some vintages, it is vinified with the same rigorous standards as its siblings, benefiting from Montrose’s exceptional gravel terroir overlooking the Gironde estuary. The result is a wine that is immediately charming, yet possesses the underlying backbone of a truly great Bordeaux.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: A deep, youthful crimson.
- Bouquet: A generous nose of dark berries, plum, and blackcurrant, underpinned by savory notes of cigar box, vanilla, and a hint of the appellation’s characteristic earthy minerality.
- Taste: Exhibits a lovely balance between concentrated fruit and a firm, yet polished tannic frame. The texture is smooth and velvety, with a fresh acidity that keeps the palate lively. The finish is long and satisfying.
Serving Suggestions
This classic claret is perfect for a Sunday roast or a formal dinner. Serve slightly below room temperature (16-18°C) and consider a brief decant to allow the aromas to fully open.
- Pairing: Excellent with traditional British roast dinners, especially lamb, or mature hard cheeses.
- Cellaring Potential: Ready to drink, but will continue to evolve gracefully for 5 to 10 years.
