Hailing from the esteemed pink granite slopes of the Fleurie appellation, the LAFARGE-VIAL FLEURIE CLOS VERNAY RED is a stunning example of structured Gamay. This project, spearheaded by Frédéric and Chantal Lafarge, applies generations of Burgundy expertise to the Beaujolais Crus. Farming is certified biodynamic, and the winemaking is precise, focusing on gentle extraction and maturation in seasoned oak to preserve the site’s unique floral finesse and mineral power. It’s a wine that truly embodies Fleurie’s nickname, ‘The Queen of Beaujolais,’ with a regal, age-worthy character.

Tasting Notes

• Colour: A shimmering, translucent ruby.
• Aroma: An intricate bouquet of crushed violets, Turkish delight, and fresh cherry fruit, underpinned by a distinctive stony minerality. It’s wonderfully fragrant and complex.
• Taste: The texture is immediately appealing-smooth, fine, and elegant (or ‘silky’ as the French say). The bright acidity carries the red fruit and floral complexity through a persistent, refreshing finish. A wine of great class and longevity.

Food Pairing & Serving

Serve this sophisticated Gamay slightly cool (around 14°C) to highlight its freshness. It is perfect with traditional British poultry and pork dishes, especially those with a hint of fruit or earthy mushrooms. A superb alternative to a lighter Burgundy Pinot Noir.
