Château Durfort-Vivens – Margaux – Red – 1990 – 1500 ml:
Château Durfort-Vivens: A Second Growth of Exceptional Purity
As a classified Second Growth (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé) from the legendary 1855 Classification, Château Durfort-Vivens stands as a testament to the finesse of the Margaux appellation. Proprietor Gonzague Lurton’s dedicated switch to certified biodynamic farming has ushered in a new era, producing wines celebrated for their purity, elegance, and distinct mineral vibrancy from the deep Garonne gravels.
Tasting Notes: Classic Margaux Structure
Crafted with a dominant proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, this Grand Vin delivers the classic structure and floral perfume for which Margaux is famed:
- **Colour:** A deep, concentrated ruby with a hint of garnet, indicative of its aging capacity.
- **Nose:** A beautiful, complex bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark plum, immediately followed by the signature violet and cedar notes of the region. Subtle spice and a hint of dark cocoa add depth.
- **Palate:** Silky on the attack, the palate is beautifully balanced with firm yet incredibly polished tannins. It is a wine of great length and freshness, avoiding excessive weight, and culminating in a long, elegant, and mineral finish.
Serving Tips & Food Matching
For optimal enjoyment, serve at 16-18°C (61-64°F). Decanting for an hour is highly recommended to allow the wine to fully open up.
- **Food Pairing:** The ideal accompaniment for a traditional Sunday Roast or classic game dishes.
