Château de Pez – Saint-Estèphe – Red – 2016:
The Noble Power of Château de Pez: A Saint-Estèphe Icon
Château de Pez stands as a historic pillar of the Médoc, widely regarded as a Cru Bourgeois estate whose quality consistently challenges the Classified Growths. Sourced from the robust, gravelly soils of Saint-Estèphe, this wine is a magnificent expression of classic Left Bank Bordeaux structure and finesse.
Tasting Notes (Typical Vintage)
- Colour: A deep, intense ruby hue, indicative of a wine built for the long haul.
- Nose: Complex and perfumed, revealing layers of dark, concentrated fruit (blackcurrant, plum), tobacco leaf, subtle spice, and a distinctive mineral/graphite character.
- Palate: Richly flavoured and full-bodied, with the powerful, yet beautifully refined tannins typical of Saint-Estèphe. The wine is balanced, elegant, and culminates in a long, fresh, and distinguished finish, promising decades of enjoyment.
Food & Serving
Ideal serving temperature is 17°C (63°F). For younger bottles, we strongly advise decanting for 60-120 minutes to allow the wine to truly open up.
- Suggested Pairings: Slow Cooked Beef Ragu, Roasted Venison, Grilled Lamb Chops, and aged hard cheeses like Mature Cheddar or Gruyère.
