Château Croix de Labrie: A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé Gem
Château Croix de Labrie, a cherished Grand Cru Classé from the heart of Saint-Émilion, stands as a beacon of modern Right Bank excellence. Under the meticulous care of Axelle and Pierre Courdurié, this organic and biodynamic ‘vignoble-jardin’ consistently produces wines of extraordinary purity and finesse. It’s a highly sought-after, small-production wine that perfectly balances impressive power with delicate, silky elegance.
Tasting Notes (A Masterpiece of Balance)
- **Colour:** Deep ruby-garnet with profound violet reflections.
- **Nose:** Highly aromatic and refined, displaying fabulous notes of blackberries, blueberries, pine needles, nutmeg, and allspice, often with a hint of white pepper and violet.
- **Palate:** Full-bodied, tight, and vibrant with a solid core of fruit. The texture is delicate and aerial, a ‘suspended touch’ of taffeta. Ultra-fine yet powerful tannins provide superb form and energy, culminating in a precise, fresh, and persistent finish. A wine of great poise and harmony.
Food Pairing & Serving
To best appreciate its structure and complexity, serve at cellar temperature (around 15.5°C/60°F). Decanting for 60-90 minutes is recommended for younger vintages. Excellent pairings include:
- Roasted Venison Haunch with a rich red wine and rosemary gravy.
- Classic Beef Wellington or a Sunday Roast Beef.
- Mature, hard English cheeses such as Aged Cheddar or a creamy Stilton.
