Bad Boy – Bordeaux – Red – 2017:
The Bad Boy BX: A Modern Classic from Bordeaux’s ‘Mauvais Garçon’
Crafted by the legendary Jean-Luc Thunevin, the Bad Boy BX is a statement wine. Thunevin, famously dubbed the ‘Bad Boy of Saint-Émilion’ by Robert Parker, created this cuvée to challenge the traditional Bordeaux establishment. It’s a contemporary, Merlot-led blend that offers exceptional concentration and immediate appeal, embodying the spirit of the ‘garage wine’ movement.
Sommelier’s Tasting Profile
- Appearance: A deep, vibrant ruby, hinting at its concentration and youth.
- Aroma: Richly perfumed, showcasing a core of black cherry and cassis, seamlessly integrated with notes of violet, espresso bean, and a subtle, spicy vanilla from 14 months of new French oak aging.
- Taste: Full and generous on the palate. It boasts a powerful, yet beautifully balanced structure. The tannins are fine-grained and silky, making it smooth and enjoyable even in its youth. Expect persistent dark fruit flavours leading to a long, clean, and spicy finish.
Food Pairing & Service
A superb match for classic British roasts and game. Serve at cellar temperature (16°C) and consider a brief decanting to soften its edges.
- Signature Match: Classic Beef Wellington.
- Winter Comfort: Traditional Game Pie or Roast Lamb with Rosemary.
