Thunevin Calvet Bad Boy Gold – Côtes du Roussillon Villages – Red – 2008:
Bad Boy Gold: A Luxury Roussillon Statement
From the collaborative venture of Bordeaux’s famed ‘Bad Boy’ Jean-Luc Thunevin and Jean-Roger Calvet, the Bad Boy Gold Côtes du Roussillon Villages is a wine of immense character and luxury. It perfectly marries the sun-drenched intensity of Roussillon’s schist soils with a sophisticated, polished winemaking style. This is a red that delivers power, depth, and an unforgettable experience.
Tasting Notes
- Colour: A deep, brooding purple with an inky core.
- Aroma: Rich and complex. Expect concentrated blackcurrant, blackberry, and damson fruit, underpinned by notes of Mediterranean scrub (garrigue), dark chocolate, and cedar from careful barrel maturation.
- Taste: Full-bodied and ample on the palate, offering a seductive, velvety texture. It is a powerful wine, yet the ripe tannins and underlying minerality maintain excellent balance. The finish is long, warming, and spicy, with a persistent mocha aftertaste.
Food Pairings & Service
This wine is built for hearty, flavourful food. Decanting is essential-allow at least one hour to allow the complex aromas to unfold. Serve slightly below room temperature (16-18°C).
- Pairing Suggestions: Traditional roast lamb, rich game pie, or mature hard cheeses.
- To Drink: Ready now, but will evolve beautifully over the next decade.
