Château Fombrauge – Magrez Fombrauge – St Emilion Grand Cru – Red – 2016:
Château Magrez Fombrauge represents the pinnacle of Bernard Magrez’s Bordeaux portfolio. Often referred to as a “garage wine” due to its micro-production from a dedicated clay-limestone parcel within the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru estate, it is an exclusive, age-worthy red, meticulously crafted under the direction of consultant Michel Rolland.
Tasting Notes
It presents a deep, almost opaque garnet-red colour. The complex nose is a luxurious blend of ripe dark berries, plum, and black cherry, underscored by elegant spice, cedar, and smoky notes from its extensive maturation in new French oak and terracotta. The palate is concentrated, rich, and full-bodied, with the powerful tannins beautifully integrated and polished.
- Colour: Deep, opaque garnet-red.
- Nose: Dark Berries, Plum, Cedar, Mocha, Spice.
- Palate: Concentrated, rich, velvety texture, powerful, long finish with minerality.
Food Matching & Service
This wine is a true showstopper for a special occasion. We strongly recommend decanting this Grand Cru for at least two hours and serving at a cellar temperature of 16-17°C (61-63°F).
- Food Matching: Beef Wellington, Roast Venison with a rich reduction, or a selection of mature English cheeses like Stilton or Cheddar.
