Château Prieuré-Lichine – Margaux – Red – 2016 – 3000 ml:
Château Prieuré-Lichine: A Margaux Fourth Growth with Proven Pedigree
Holding the prestigious rank of Quatrième Cru Classé from the 1855 Classification, Château Prieuré-Lichine is a celebrated Margaux estate. Its history, dating back to Benedictine monks, was cemented by the visionary Alexis Lichine. The modern wines are noted for their greater depth and concentration, while retaining the signature perfume and finesse expected from this esteemed appellation.
Tasting Notes
- Colour: A vibrant, deep ruby-garnet.
- Aromatics: Classic Margaux nose with layered aromas of blackcurrant, plum, tobacco leaf, cedarwood, and a delicate floral lift of violets.
- Taste: Medium-full bodied with a beautifully refined mouthfeel. The tannins are fine-grained and polished, supporting a core of ripe black and red fruits. The wine shows excellent structure, savoury complexity, and a persistent, elegant finish. A true delight for the cellar.
Food Pairing & Service
Best served at 17-18°C. Decanting is highly recommended, especially for younger vintages, to allow the wine’s intricate character to fully unfold.
- Recommended Pairings: Traditional Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding, Classic Game Pie (e.g., Venison or Pheasant), Mature English Cheddar.
- Cellaring: Designed for the long haul, with a drinking window often extending well over two decades.
